Romance scam warning |

Dear Resident
When an elderly woman from Cambridgeshire connected with a man on an over 60s dating site, she was so happy and so looking forward to meeting him.
After a few months of chatting online, the man told her he was keen to meet her, but he was based in Kuwait and needed to travel back.
Shortly before the pair were due to meet, he told her he was stuck at the airport. He was bringing back a gem to make her some jewellery and it got held at customs. He explained he didn’t have the right insurance for the gem and needed her to pay it to help get it through the process.
Keen to help and touched he was bringing a gem over for her, the woman dutifully parted with hundreds of pounds to free the gem from customs.
Unfortunately, she never got to see her new man or the gem and never got her money back. Romance scammers target the elderly and vulnerable in society and know what to say to hook them in.
